1.8 | Fabric Resourcing

In order to resource relevant materials for this unit, it was important for me to contact a number of companies who create or sell smart textiles. The companies, which I contacted, were not just textiles brands, but also those that deal with surgical, architectural and aerospace materials. Palmhive, Pharetra and Outlast were some of the companies that quickly responded to my requests and sent me an abundance of fabric samples. These have been significant in the development of this unit for me. They have allowed me to push my ideas and visualise my final outcome. Specifically the fabric from Pharetra, the soft cushioned feel juxtaposing the structured aesthetic of the fabrics is interesting, the fabric itself has acupressure qualities and would be suitable for sports wear. This brings forth my initial idea to add sports styling to my work. As if the fabric was used in a hooded jacket it could have soothing qualities when worn after exercise. To develop these ideas I plan to recreate the soft structure of the fabric by trapping foam into my own fabric in Unit X for my look book. However I want to exaggerate these to give an over sized and conceptual feel to the fabrics.
