1.7 | New Inspiration

Looking through some of my initial research for this unit, I discovered imagery of art installations by Carlo Bernardini and appreciated his use of geometry, angles and phosphorescent light. In an attempt to recreate this I set up a long exposure setting on my camera. To create different forms of light I used different thicknesses of bulb, a range of colours, a dynamic use of shapes and other lighting sources. Although I was unsuccessful in the creating of angular lines and geometric shapes, the effect that I had created instead was, in my opinion, better. The looser, less controlled effect reiterated the lack of control the glitches had shown previously in the unit. I would like to attempt this technique again using more focused colours and experimenting with shapes that can be made with light.

1.6 | Patternity Submisson

'Exploring the Positive Power of Pattern'

Upon learning via Patternity’s newsletter, that they were seeking anyone from the public to send in photography to be published in their first ever book, I began to look through my own imagery. The idea was ‘from the mundane to the magnificent’. As I had carried out a project previously, named ‘Urban Influences’ I thought it was appropriate to choose imagery from this specific project. I chose photographs that I felt leant them selves well to Patternity’s aesthetic. I felt that this project specifically catered to my own practice as I thrive from creating inspiration from my own photography. Patternity has also been a constant inspiration throughout my higher education and it would be amazing to see my work published next to theirs.

1.5 | Glitch

When exploring the 3D feature on Adobe Photoshop, the software began to glitch. This was uncontrollable and unexpected. However I feel that this has been a great turning point for my project. The vibrant colours brought through from the glitching have inspired a number of possible ideas for the unit. I specifically prefer the uncontrollability aspect of the glitch and the technology mimicry aspect of it. I plan to explore virtual distortion further by developing these glitches into prints. Upon reflection of this happening, I feel it was for the best and will push my practice further; this process has already pushed my abilities within Adobe Photoshop further and allowed me to be confident when complications arise. I have also enjoyed learning a new technique, especially something that I have not seen many people use.
